About me & blog

maipenquynh is the decision to share things of my life with the internet. Anything I want to think out loud, I do on the blog.

A very big part belongs to photography, especially the analogue photography: I want to share my photo results and other thoughts. The blog and photography remind me to observe a little more in everyday life and to seek out things worth telling and seeing.

Things of the world that became my small and big weaknesses and where I thought at least once: I would love to write about this on my blog!

  • Libraries and book shops (although I don't write about books)
  • Letters and typography
  • Flora and fauna (a lot of it is new to me because of reasons)
  • Everyday life with its mundane and wonder
  • Learning and documenting
  • Handcrafts and how to create things and keep them alive - darning, knitting, embroidering
  • Public area
  • Language and what it does with us
  • Being on the road, nearby and far away

The blog name mai|pen|quynh is mainly an audio-sensory gag (this wasn't that clever for a blog 😆). It is made up of the two parts of my first name , Mai Quynh (*) and the word pen . pen symbolises several things: a pen but also part of the word penguin (cool animals!) (**).

I write my blog posts bilingual as often as possible – German and English. You can change the language in the right corner on top of the page.
For the English version, I use DeepL for translation and then make a few adjustments. However, some posts don’t have an English translation (yet).

I am very happy about a comment or an emoji like (under each post) <3
And if you really want to go for it, then write me an email via maipenquynh@outlook.com 😀

Here's to joyful writing and reading!

Mai Quynh / September 2024

[edit January 2024: I am currently revising the blog and introducing a translation button. In the meantime, there will be no English translation for some posts and it will be bit wild regarding the english translation.]

(*) My name is pronounced differently than it is probably read (unless you know Vietnamese). So you'd better listen to the vietnamese voice output on Google Translate for the pronunciation, thus less of the beautiful sound is lost: Google Translate pronounces Mai Quỳnh

(**) If you read penquynh , it sounds a bit like any pronounciation version of penguin when actor Benedict Cumberbatch pronounces it in a documentary, watch on YouTube here: Benedict Mispronouncing Penguin Has Us Weak😭 #Shorts
