Der erste und Januar-Rückblick ist keine drei Wochen her, da komme ich schon mit dem zweiten und Februar-Rückblick um die Ecke. Und ich freue mich! Es war schön, die kleinen und großen Dinge des Monats für mich zu sammeln und nun noch einmal Revue passieren zu lassen. Es hat durchaus eine andere Wirkung auf mich, Dinge zu dokumentieren im Wissen, dass ich sie nochmals durchgehen und zur Veröffentlichung kuratieren werde.

Aus dem Leben: Mainzer Rosenmontagsumzug, Naturkundemuseum in Karlsruhe und Kurzfilme

Erste Male:

Nach dem ersten Rosenmontagsumzug kann ich zumindest noch nicht feststellen, dass es nicht mein Ding ist. Andersherum habe ich festgestellt, dass ich viel Lust hätte, ein richtig cooles Kostüm fürs nächste Mal zu haben, sollte es ein nächstes Mal geben (meins war rudimentär: Haaren zu zwei Böppels gesteckt und ein Pseudo-Minnie-Mouse Gesicht aufgemalt). Und das Naturkundemuseum war schon sehr cool! Sooo viel zu entdecken, aber ich denke, zum Thema Naturkundemuseum (allgemein/Karlsruhe) gibt es noch einen separaten Beitrag.

Ich weiß nicht weshalb, aber mir wurden im Februar Kurzfilme auf YouTube angespült. Und ich finde Kurzfilme toll! Das sind (leider) die einzigen Filme, die ich tatsächlich anmache. Ohne die Kurzfilme an dieser Stelle zu bewerten, die folgenden habe ich angeklickt und angesehen:

Irgendwas mit Foto: Handyfotografie

Aus verschiedenen Gründen habe ich mir letztes Jahr ein neues Smartphone zugelegt. Ein schöner Grund: Die Smartphones dieser Marke sind seit jeher auch für die gute eingebaute Kamera bekannt. Und diese will nun auch genutzt werden (nachdem meine letzte Handykamera dann doch in die Jahre gekommen ist)! Nach Recherchen zum Stichwort Handyfotografie habe ich mir zwei Apps (Focos, Camera+) heruntergeladen. Nach ersten Versuchen weiß ich nicht, ob sie das sind was ich suchte (ohne zu wissen was ich übehaupt suchte). Ich bleibe dran. Passend dazu habe ich einen Handy-Adapter für mein Stativ gekauft.

Außerdem habe ich meinen Worten Taten folgen lassen und auf Instagram @maipenquynh gepostet, yey. Und gelernt, dass es nicht so einfach war eine App zu finden, mit der ich einfach (Betonung auf einfach) mein Bild im Orginalbildverhältnis mit weißem Hintergrund hinterlegen kann.

Scanner-Fokus: Slipper stricken und Socke stopfen

Seit Weihnachten wollten eine Freundin und ich gemeinsam Slipper stricken. Während sie das erste Paar schon seit Monaten fertig hat, hatte ich noch nicht mal angefangen. Aber!, im Februar habe ich mit der Maschenprobe angefangen. Die Maschenprobe ist mittlerweile des Öfteren mein Einstieg in ein Strickprojekt, wenn ich aus irgendwelchen undefinierbaren Gründen nicht mit dem Projekt anfange.

Und nachdem ich das Stopfen und Reparieren als Hobby deklariert habe, dachte ich, dass ich doch wieder mal eine Socke stopfen könnte. Gedacht, getan, WIP (work in progress).

 

Netzfundstücke

Auch wenn ich nicht selbstständig bin, so fand ich den Artikel min-max Ziele für die To-Do-Liste von jenni.works irgendwie ziemlich hilfreich – das kann ich auch für Hobbyprojekte anwenden.

Übers Reisen als Hobby habe ich des Öfteren nachgedacht und finde, dass einige Darstellungen ein Gschmäckle haben – ohne sagen zu können, was genau mich am Reisen als Hobby stört. Ich nehme mich dabei selbst nicht davon aus. Der Beitrag Die falschen Versprechen des Reisens von Mariel McLaughlin auf Deutschlandfunk hat noch andere Impulse gebracht; insbesondere der Gedanke, dass Reisen durchaus auf „kolonialistischen Mustern [basiere]“, fand ich interessant, weil durchaus richtig. Den Beitrag habe ich in der Audioversion gehört, gibt es aber auch in Schriftform zum Lesen.

February 2023

The first and January review was less than three weeks ago, and the second and February review is already ready. And I am happy about that! It was nice to collect the small and big things of the month for myself and reviewing them again. For sure, it feels different to me to document things, knowing that I will go through them again and curate them in order to post them.

After being to the Rosenmontagsumzug in Mainz, I can’t state yet that it’s not my thing at all. At the same time I found out that I’d love to have a really cool costume for next carneval season if there is a next time for me (my costume was rudimentary: hair pinned into two knobs and a pseudo-Minnie Mouse face). And the natural history museum was very cool! Sooo much to discover but I think there will be a separate post about the Natural History Museum (general/Karlsruhe).

I don’t know why, but short movies appeared on my YouTube feed this month. Short movies are great! They are (unfortunately) the only movies I actually watch. Without rating the short movies at this point, the following are the ones I watched (see links in german section above).

Irgendwas mit Foto („Something with photo“): Mobile phone photography

For various reasons I bought a new smartphone last year. One nice reason: The brand my smartphone is from has always been known for its good built-in camera. And now I want to use it eventually (after my last mobile phone camera wasn’t  very up to date anymore)! After researching the keyword Handyfotografie (smartphone photography), I downloaded two apps (Focos, Camera+). After first attempts using them, I’m not sure whether they are what I was looking for (without knowing what I was looking for in the first place). I’ll keep trying to understand them. To support my equipment, I bought a mobile phone adapter for my tripod.

Also, I kept my word and posted something on my instagram account @maipenquynh, yey. And learned that it wasn’t that easy to find an app that would let me easily (emphasis on easily) add a white background while keeping the original dimensions of my image.

Scanner focus: knitting loafers and darning socks

Since Christmas, a friend and I have wanted to knit loafers together. While she had finished the first pair months ago, I hadn’t even begun. But!, in February I started with the gauge. Recently, the gauge is often my starting point for a knitting project if for some indefinable reason I don’t start the project.

And after declaring darning and mending as a hobby, I thought I could darn a sock again. Thought so, done so, WIP (work in progress).

Even though I’m not self-employed, I  found the post min-max Ziele für die To-Do-Liste (freestyle translation: min-max goals for a to do list) by jenni.works quite helpful since I can apply the rule to hobby projects as well.

I have often thought about travelling as a hobby and can’t get rid of my impression that the way how travelling as a hobby is shown sometimes is kind of shady – without being able to say what exactly bothers me about travelling as a hobby. I do not exclude myself from having travelling as a hobby. The article Die falschen Versprechen des Reisens (freestyle translation: The False Promises of Travelling) by Mariel McLaughlin on Deutschlandfunk provided me further impulses; in particular, I found the idea that travelling is based on „colonialist patterns“ interesting and I do agree with the author. I listened to the audio version of the article but it’s also available in written form for reading.
